On Thursday last the 16th of January Rang a Ceathair boarded a very fancy bus to take them to CIT where they would put all their hard work to the test in the VEX IQ Regional competition. To begin with they had to get the robot inspected and luckily it met all requirements! Throughout the day the children took part in skills and driving challenges and took part in 8 team challenges where they were driving with robots from other schools. They even managed to get the highest combined score for a single game in their last match! Maith Thú. Here are some pictures from the day;
Over the past month we have been learning all about space and the first trip to the moon. We were so inspired by Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins that we decided to have a go at making out own rockets. Take a look at the finished products! We then decided to try launching them. We learnt that the lighter the rocket and less drag it has in the air the further it will go. During the experiment we took some observations including what the rocket looked like and how well it launched. And here were the three rockets that were most successful!
This week in Maths Rang a Ceathair are learning all about length and measuring distance. We started by discussing different items that we can measure length with such as a trundle wheel, metre stick and ruler! We then undertook the challenge of measuring the length and width of the classroom. We discovered the metre stick must always start at zero and to get the most accurate length it is important to measure in a straight line so using the edges of the classroom worked well!
