How long is a piece of string?

Image
This week in Maths Rang a Ceathair are learning all about length and measuring distance. We started by discussing different items that we can measure length with such as a trundle wheel, metre stick and ruler! We then undertook the challenge of measuring the length and width of the classroom. We discovered the metre stick must always start at zero and to get the most accurate length it is important to measure in a straight line so using the edges of the classroom worked well!

Marshmallow and Spaghetti Towers!

Image
Yesterday the class had a lot of fun examining structures of different buildings around the world. To put what they had learnt to the test they had to make a tower out of Spaghetti and marshmallows in 20minutes and have it hold a light weight. It was a very difficult challenge in the given timeframe but each group worked hard as a team!

VEX Day Out!

Image
On Thursday last the 16th of January Rang a Ceathair boarded a very fancy bus to take them to CIT where they would put all their hard work to the test in the VEX IQ Regional competition. To begin with they had to get the robot inspected and luckily it met all requirements! Throughout the day the children took part in skills and driving challenges and took part in 8 team challenges where they were driving with robots from other schools. They even managed to get the highest combined score for a single game in their last match! Maith ThĂș. Here are some pictures from the day;

A special thank you to them for make such a valuable contribution to our project! The PR team were busy making posters for our trip to CIT. They also had fun designing a blog for the robot. The Design and Programming team are busy programming the robot to move autonomously. The Materials and Log Book team are continuing to write about the problems we encountered and the solutions we came up with to solve them.  Finally the research team were busy creating a STEM research project idea. They spent time researching information and putting together a short video about the project. Here is a link to it! https://youtu.be/rA3jXnYDmPw   We hope you enjoy it! #VEXIQChallenge #VEX2019/2020 #DellCIT
